Meet the Teachers
Our classes are divided into two rooms.
Caitlin Leach teaches 6th-7th graders and Sarah Darling teachers 7th-8th.
Meet Caitlin:
My name is Caitlin Leach and I will also be one of the MoCI teachers this year. I graduated from Western Michigan University in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Early childhood Education focusing on cognitive impairments and learning disabilities. I was hired into Warren Consolidated Schools in the Fall of 2013 in the Early Childhood Special Education program where I have been for the past five years. I am eager to be teaching middle schoolers for the first time and to start out the school year in the fall! I am also a dance instructor at a local studio and enjoy incorporating my love of music and movement into my educational career. My husband and I have a beautiful almost 2 year old daughter named Emerson, an American Staffordshire/Pitbull named Nova. If I am not at school, teaching dance or hanging with my family; we are typically enjoying being outside and traveling all over Michigan.
Meet Sarah:
My name is Sarah Darling and I will be one of the MoCI teachers this year. I graduated from Wayne State University in December, 2012 where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in General Education K-5 and Cognitive Impairment K-12. I graduated from Madonna University in July, 2015 where I received a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. I started teaching in Warren Consolidated Schools in February, 2013. I’m extremely happy to be teaching at Carleton for my third school year. I have a supportive husband, beautiful daughter named Summer who is two years old and three cats at home. I enjoy my time with them on the weekends! I am looking forward to a fantastic year. I love all children and love teaching!

We start promptly at 7:40 and students are dismissed between 2:30 and 2:40pm. Classroom time will be split between group lessons, individual lessons and working in small, various centers around the classroom. Students will be working towards their own individual IEP goals and age/grade level appropriate tasks. Several goals can be worked on within a particular lesson. We take part in an adaptive P.E program with our teacher, Mrs. Megan DeCardenas. We are in an inclusive environment as we share our gym space with typical developing 8th graders. This program has been great with peer to peer modeling, and it has helped both our students who are in general education as well as our MOCI students. We have speech therapy with our therapist Mrs. Jessica Brzezinski twice a week. She uses a push-in model and teaches lessons on an interactive white board system. Mrs. Brzezinski comes Wednesday and Thursday mornings. She has been in the district for 17 years and this is her 6th year in the MOCI program. We have immediate access to a school social worker, Mrs. Julie Rosenbrock every single day. We are fortunate to have her accessible to us in the building. |
If every child matters, every child has the right to a good start in life. If every child matters, every child has the right to be included. And that is so important for children with special needs.
